The Teaching Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teachers in all of his/her duties. These include: creating lesson plans with intergenerational activities, maintaining licensing regulations for education, health and safety, assisting with the development of individual developmentally appropriate and therapeutic goals for each child and incorporating them into the larger classroom plan. He/she is responsible for maintaining the classroom environment in the absence of the classroom teacher, including overseeing the participation of substitutes, volunteers and interns. Teaching Assistants will participate on a team of Center staff helping to identify the strengths, needs and supports necessary for each of the children and/or their families in their classroom.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
• Assist in the planning, implementation, evaluation and supervision of the classroom, including the production of weekly lesson plans and progress notes.
• Plan classroom and intergenerational program activities in accordance with Easter Seals policies and best practices, as directed by the Teacher.
• Plan for and use instructional methods which enable each child to achieve individual and group learning objectives
• Maintain a classroom environment that motivates nurtures and prepares the children for the next step in the educational process.
• Maintain and enforce classroom rules that dictate behavior expectations for the children.
• Supervise the classroom in the absence of a teacher.
• Ensure classroom's primary goal is the safety and well-being of each child.
• Perform general classroom and center housekeeping duties such as preparing meals, feeding children, toileting and diapering children and general clean up.

QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma/equivalent
• CDA preferred
• Minimum of 6 months experience in childcare setting, involving face-to-face interaction and problem solving with children and their families, preferably with preschool aged children.
• Prior experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to putting children and families first.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with participants, families and community referral sources.
• Willingness to participate in and support all intergenerational programs and activities
• Self-motivated and able to problem solve
• Spanish speaking skills a plus.

Language Ability: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Spanish speaking skills a plus.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to plan, develop alternative strategies to resolve problems, skills to support staff and families to make decisions regarding the children's health and safety.
